Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults and applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies
This course includes all first aid units (Provide first aid, Provide CPR, anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training) under one certificate, and is designed to comply with Childcare first aid regulations.
Course Content
- How to properly assess an emergency situation
- DRSABCD
- CPR techniques on adults,children and infants
- using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) (Adults and children)
- choking
- first aid procedures for bleeding, burns, fractures including managing shock
- managing medical conditions such as anaphylaxis, diabetes, asthma and seizures
- managing medical emergencies such as snake/spider bites, poisons, head and spinal injury
- infection control procedures
- managing exposure to extreme temperatures
- administering first aid for eye & soft tissue injuries
- assessing and moving sick & injured
- legal responsibilities of a first aider
- basic anatomy and physiology

Pre-requisites
Participants must be over 14 years and have basic English speaking and writing skills in order to undertake this course and complete the assessments. It is not a requirement to have completed Level 1 First Aid. Completion of the online eLearning package is required prior to attendance of the practical day. All participants MUST be physically capable of performing 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin on the floor.
Course Duration and Assessment
Practical session of 7.5 hours with appropriate scenario based assessments throughout the day
The online eLearning workbook package, including a multiple choice assessment completed PRIOR to attending the practical day

Certification and Materials Provided
Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment for:
- HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting and
- HLTAID003 Provide first aid
Participants will receive an emailed copy of statement of attainment (issued by Healthcorp RTO 91222) upon successful completion PLUS a coloured certificate and complementary replica plastic wallet card.
Throughout all courses we use high quality manikins (Adult, child and infant), defibrillators, training anaphylaxis auto-injectors, asthma bronchodilator prop with child and adult spacers, bandages and slings.
